How to freeze and store your fresh food.

All nuts and seeds can turn rancid in a matter of weeks because of the oil contained in the nut or seed. If nuts are refrigerated they will last a very long time and if they are frozen then can be kept almost indefinitely. I have eaten nuts right out of the freezer and they taste great because they aren’t starting to go rancid and because of the cold, are very crunchy.

When you find a good deal on fresh veggies (or if you are growing your own this summer), you'll want to make sure they don't go to waste.
One way is to freeze vegetables for later use.

Freezing fresh vegetables properly will help them keep their taste, color and texture. You must blanch most vegetables before freezing.
Vegetables with high water content do not freeze well.

How to Blanch and Freeze Fresh Vegetables

 1 Wash vegetables under cool water from the tap. Cut the vegetables to the size you desire with a knife.

 2 Place a pot of water on the stove and bring it to a boil.

3 Blanch the vegetables by placing them in the boiling water for at least two minutes. Blanching times may be longer for some vegetables.


 4 Remove the vegetables from the boiling water and submerge them in a bowl of ice water. Soak the vegetables in the ice water for the same amount of time they were in the boiling water.

 5 Place the vegetables on a towel and pat them dry.

 6 Place the vegetables in airtight containers or zippered plastic bags made for the freezer. Place the containers in the freezer promptly. Write the date and contents on the outside of the container.

Grab your tickets and join in the fun of the Ozark Mountain Hoe-Down, coming to NOC Enid’s Briggs Auditorium Saturday evening.

The hoe-down includes musical performances by the George Brothers, along with the comedy antics of P. Nutt, Ponytail and Girl.

 Tickets are $25 at the door. Tickets $20 in advance can be purchased at Basket Kase, Blaze’s BBQ, Buck’s Party Shop, Enid Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sandy’s Family Haircutters, KOFM, or from Chisholm Band Booster Club members. Children under 10 will receive free admission.
